DNS Crypt is a small utility that enables you to encrypt your DNS packets, thereby protecting you from potential eavesdropping and man-in-the-middle attacks. DNS is the protocol that translates domain names into IP addresses. Any website you visit requires a DNS look-up, which is usually performed by your Internet Service Provider and can be easily intercepted . In order for encryption to work properly the program will automatically change your DNS settings to use DNS Crypt instead of your ISP's DNS servers. DNS Crypt acts as a proxy server that encrypts your DNS queries and sends them to the OpenDNS service. If there are any problems with the encrypted DNS, the program can automatically fall back to standard DNS. You can also choose to disable encryption at any time.
